Walk 2
Walk 2 - Train and ferry walk.
30 mins
See the river from all angles: a trip on the ferry, a woodland walk and a ride over the splendid viaduct.
The walk will take about 30 minutes. Most of the route is downhill and it is waymarked with the Discovery Trail apple symbol.
From Calstock take the train over the viaduct to Bere Alston (or you can start from Bere Alston Station). Leave Bere Alston Station and follow the station approach to the road. Turn right here and go under the railway bridge. A short way past the bridge cross the stile on the left and go diagonally across he field downhill into the valley, using the chimney on Kit Hill on the horizon as a guide. Cross the stile in the valley bottom then follow the path through the woods, keeping left at the obvious fork.
After a while the path drops to the riverbank, and Calstock and the viaduct come into view. Continue ahead on the path towards the viaduct.
Pass in front of the farmhouse and go through the gate on the right to the ferry landing to cross to Calstock (if you started at Bere Alston take the train back from Calstock, over the viaduct to your starting point).
