Walk 1
Walk 1 - Calstock to Cotehele.
1.5 miles (2.5km) ~ 45 mins - 1hour
Enjoy a walk between Calstock and Cotehele Quay, taking the ferry one way.
This pleasant walk (one way) is approximately 1.5 miles (2.5km), taking around 45 minutes -1 hour. The walk is on road/track and is easy to follow, although there is a steep climb up through the woods for a short distance.
From Calstock
From the centre of Calstock, walk uphill between the Riverside Cafe and the Tamar Inn, bearing left at the junction. Pass by the path down to the Parish Quay and then turn left along Lower Kelly Road. Walk along this riverside road, under the splendid viaduct which was completed in 1907. Continue on the road past the old lime kilns and under a bridge which once carried an incline railway.
At the corner house with large verandahs, the road turns inland, away from the river. Pass by some cottages and after about 100 yards, turn sharp left to follow a track uphill through the woods signposted to Cotehele. When the track divides, bear left and take the lower path signposted to the Quay, passing the chapel on the way. To visit the House and Gardens, take the right-hand path and follow signs to reception. (NT - admission charge payable)
From Cotehele
From Cotehele Quay, walk to the car park, and just past the Gallery building, turn left up onto a path into the woodland. Turn right and continue on this track past the chapel, Calstock view point, and then down towards the Danescombe Valley.
At the bottom of the track turn right onto the rough road past some stone cottages and on towards the river. Stay on this riverside road passing under a bridge which once carried an incline railway. Continue along the road, under the splendid viaduct which was completed in 1907. At the road junction turn right and walk down into the village centre.
